Compulsory Basic Training

CBT is a basic course that you must complete before you can ride on the main road.

CBT courses is usually completed in one day and it is the first step to getting on 2 wheels safely and legally and and this is also the first step of getting a full licence. This course entitles you to ride a 125cc or 50cc for the 16 year olds. All you need to bring is your valid UK provisional or full car licence. We supply the bike, insurance, helmet, gloves, jacket and waterproofs. You can learn on an automatic or manual motorcycle.

The CBT is split into 5 elements

Element A - Chat
  • Why the CBT was introduced
  • Why we need to wear the correct clothing and helmet
  • Licence and eyesight check

Element B - Chat, watching and doing
  • We introduce you to the bikes and scooters. Show you where everything is and what everything does
  • Very basic motorcycle and scooter maintenance checks
  • Show you how to use the stands, starting and stopping the engine correctly

Lunch time



Element C - Chat, watching, doing and riding
  • Riding in a straight line, stopping safely and correctly
  • As your confidence builds, we learn how to ride slowly, make observations and more

Element D - Chat and kitting up for the road ride
  • Learn about road craft and how to conduct yourself safely on the main road

Element E - Road ride
  • Put to practice all you have learnt today on the main road with your instructor
  • When you have reached the required standard, you will receive a CBT Certificate (DL196) which is valid for two years.
  • If you do not reach the required standard, you can come back for additional training at a reduced rate.

Booster courses in Twickenham

The booster course is a day of pure road riding covering all different roads and conditions. You will have one of Twickenham Motorcycle Training's DVSA approved instructors for the day and they will decide what kind of riding will be the most beneficial to you.

We could take you for a gentle ride to Box Hill or through the country lanes of Surrey, have lunch at the famous Ace Cafe or a more demanding ride through the City of London. You need CBT or full bike licence for the booster course.
